Interactive effects between supplemental ultraviolet-B radiation and heavy metals on the growth and biochemical characteristics of Spinacia oleracea L

چکیده
The impact of supplemental UV-B (sUV-B) radiation and heavy metals: Cd (68 μmol.kg-1 soil) and Ni (68 μmol.kg-1 soil) singly and in combination was studied on photosynthetic and non-photosynthetic pigments, metabolites, enzyme activities, biomass accumulation and the net primary productivity of spinach (Spinacia oleracea L. var. All Green), a common leafy vegetable plant. Both the stresses individually and in combination resulted in the reduction of photosynthetic pigments, ascorbic acid, and catalase activity, whereas a reverse trend was observed for anthocyanin, flavonoids and proline content, lipid peroxidation and peroxidase activity. The interactive effects of both the stresses were, however, less than additive. Combined treatment of sUV-B + Cd was more deleterious as compared to sUV-B + Ni and other individual treatments.

Changes in Physiological and Biochemical Parameters of Gourd (Cucurbita pepo L.) Two Varieties under Drought and UV-B Radiation. Nobar Hajihosseinlo*, Siavash Hosseini Sarghein and Rashid Jamei
It emerged recently that there is an inter-relationship between drought and Ultraviolet-B (UV-B) radiation in plant responses, in that both stresses provoke an oxidative burst. The objective of the present investigation was to study the effect of drought stress, UV-B radiation and the combined effects of UV-B and drought stresses on two cultivars of gourd seedling. The gourd plants were grown w...
متن کاملBiochar impact on physiological and biochemical attributes of Spinach (Spinacia oleracea L.) in nickel contaminated soil
Disastrous effect of nickel on spinach was discussed by number of authors but the effect of amendments like biochar with nickel on Spinacea oleraceaL. is not still discussed by any author of the world because biochar was used as soil amendments which play a vital role in reducing mobilization and uptake of nickel by spinach plants. As nickel contaminated plants are very harmful for th...
متن کاملMorphological and Biochemical Responses of Basil Plant Under Ultraviolet Radiation-B and Deficit Irrigation Under Greenhouse Conditions
Environmental stresses such as deficit irrigation and ultraviolet radiation can influence plant growth and development. Among the environmental variables, ultraviolet radiation is an important factor in plant response to other stresses, such as deficit irrigation. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of ultraviolet B radiation (UV-B), irrigation stress and combined effects o...

متن کاملPerformance of purslane (Portulaca oleracea) in nickel and cadmium contaminated soil as a heavy metals-removing crop
Specific plants can remove heavy metals from the soil and contribute to pollution remediation in cropping systems. Determining the level of highest heavy metals that a super-accumulator crop can withstand without reducing its yield is important for management. The objective of this study was to investigate the heavy metal-removing capacity of purslane by studying different stress criteria and b...
